How we got here.
star-translations was founded in 2019 in San Giovanni Gemini, a town of around 8,000 people in the heart of the Agrigento province in southern Sicily. The choice of this location was not obvious but proved correct: the Agrigento area has one of the highest per-capita translation requirement volumes in Italy, driven by judicial proceedings involving Arabic-speaking populations, international tourism to the Valley of the Temples and other heritage sites, and commercial exchanges with southern Mediterranean countries.
We built the service catalogue pragmatically, following the real requirements of the area. Legal-judicial came first, requiring sworn translators registered with the Tribunale di Agrigento. Tourism-cultural followed soon after, driven by growing demand for multilingual content for sites like the Valley of the Temples and the Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. Literary was added when we recognised the extraordinary Sicilian literary output that was not reaching international markets for lack of capable translators.
